How to Beautifully Spruce Up Your Home for Spring

Updated: Jun 7, 2022

The butterfly sitting on your windowsill is the harbinger of spring — outdoors. Whilst you may want to keep the butterfly outside, there are plenty of ways to bring the essence of this beautiful season indoors. And after a long winter, introducing a new set of decor will be a breath of fresh air.

So, let’s discover fun ways to decorate your home for spring!

Use Fresh Colours

Dark colours look fantastic in the winter, but in the spring? Well, not as much. Spring is all about bright and vivid hues, and drawing inspiration from the season itself helps bring these to your interior.

For example, the green from your plants coupled with the bright red and orange from the wings of the butterfly can be added to your living space. If you’re not ready for a bold paint change, incorporate colours through soft furnishings and decor. Colourful cushions, lamps, vases, and curtains (perhaps even an armchair to use during the spring) are creative ways to bring pops of spring colour into your home.

If you’re not sure what colours work well together, or how much colour to add without overwhelming your space, our Interior Design Gurus can understand your needs and preferences and give you expert guidance!

Bring In Nature, Literally

A spring-inspired interior isn’t complete without incorporating elements of nature. Allow natural light to brighten up your space, grow houseplants abundantly, and introduce the water feature by adding a tabletop fountain. Nothing screams SPRING like a bouquet of fresh flowers; from daffodils and hydrangeas to tulips and roses, flowers come in so many colours, perfect for every room of your house.

Infusing biophilic design is the fancy word for bringing the outdoors in, and you can learn all about it in our article dedicated to this.

Use Lighter Fabrics

As you welcome the warmer season with lighter pieces of clothing, you should replace the heavier textiles in your interior with lighter ones, too. For example, use cotton and linen instead of fur and wool for the bedding, and light, translucent material for the curtains. This makes the space feel airy and light, and all set up for the upcoming summer.

Reduce Clutter

Spring is the perfect season to clear out the clutter and start anew. Start by getting rid of all unnecessary items from your space and tucking away the things you still need but could do without displaying.

Once you’re done cleaning, place a wicker basket near your furniture. This doubles as a decorative item whilst providing space to store everyday items.

Repaint Old Furniture

Give new life to your old furniture by giving it a fresh coat of paint. If you’re willing to invest, you can purchase a new accent furniture piece, too.

A layer of dark green paint (for example, on your dining room chairs) is a great way to revitalise your space, and perfectly complements all the biophilic, natural elements you’re bringing into your space.

Set The TableTop

Introduce the essence of spring to your dining table by switching out the dinnerware and accessories. Set the base by laying down a table-runner with bright colours — for example, with your favourite fruit or plant. Next, fill a tray with spring accessories, such as fruits or flowers.

Finally, bring in a small vase with bright flowers of a similar tone to maintain the colour scheme, and use plates with a flower silhouette for the ultimate spring effect.

Switch Up Wall Art

Switching up wall art is one of the easiest ways to spruce up your space for spring. Incorporate prints of plants and nature, using a white base to keep things minimal. Placing a few plants nearby complements the entire space and adds to the overall aesthetic.

If you don’t have the budget to change out all the art pieces, you can be choiceful and pick out the central ones and replace them with spring-related imagery, whilst keeping the other (season-neutral) ones as they originally were.
